Join the Chicago satellite office for Longshot Magazine

By in journalism, photography

A few other Chicagoans and I are helping organize a satellite office for Longshot, the magazine written, edited, designed and sent to the printer in a span of 48 hours. The madness begins at 2 p.m. CST Friday, July 29, when Longshot HQ in New York sends out this issue’s theme.

Longshot has been dropping hints about the theme over the past two weeks: the trailer for “Winter’s Bone,” a Discovery Channel special on flash floods and desert rain, Cat Power’s “Hard Times in New York,” Chapter 8 of “Madame Bovary,” a video of a gambling cat, and others.

You can submit fiction, poetry, essays, reported narratives, photography, cartoons and art, or pitch in with the proofreading, editing and design. New this time around is Longshot Radio — “like StoryCorps on speed” — so a special radio production crew will be collecting audio field reports and original music, too.

So come join us! We’re still nailing down plans, but for right now we’d like to set up Friday evening in a 24-hour coffee shop or diner with wi-fi. Find the Chicago group for Longshot on Facebook and on Google+ or email longshotchicago@gmail.com for more details.
